Why Sleep Test ?

The sleep test is a simple way to measure how much restful sleep you get each night. A good night’s sleep is necessary for proper brain function and mood regulation. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you may experience fatigue, irritability, memory loss, and even depression.
Sleep tests are done at home using a device called a polysomnography (PSG). You’ll wear electrodes attached to your head and body while you sleep. These record your brain waves, eye movements, breathing patterns, muscle activity, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels.
A PSG measures four things:
– Total time asleep
– Number of times you wake up
– Duration of each sleep cycle
– Amount of REM sleep (dreaming)
You’ll need to go to bed at the same time each night and avoid caffeine and alcohol before testing. Your doctor may ask you to keep a sleep diary for a few weeks prior to the test.
If you have any questions about the sleep test, contact your doctor.
